The Holiday Paper Chase In the fall of 2021, book publishers, printing presses and independent bookstores warned consumers of an impending book shortage ahead of the holiday season. Julia interviewed employees at a popular New York City bookstore and the regional sales director of a national writing press to uncover the supply-chain disruptions that led to the shortage and their resulting local and national implications. The story was published in the NYCity News Service.

Unpure: A Newsletter for Purity Culture Deconstructors
In the fall of 2022, Julia launched her newsletter, Unpure, which serves the purity culture deconstruction community, or those who are recovering and unlearning harmful and shameful beliefs from purity culture. Based on survey research from over 200 deconstructors, town halls and personal interviews, Julia learned that deconstructors find life after deconstructing incredibly isolating and crave connection with other deconstructors. This inspired Unpure's first iteration: a newsletter of curated events, support groups and resources all intended to help deconstructors overcome the isolation of deconstruction.
